The characters are great, the story is excellent, the graphics are superb, the controls and gameplay are both good and the music is fantastic, making for an overall very enjoyable and memorable game. Battles are fought on a 2D screen that scrolls both left and right, similar to that of most fighting games such as Street Fighter. It is possible to pause the game at any time and use magic, items, or choose an overall strategy for the allies.Tales of Phantasia is a role playing game for the Super Nintendo that combines random encounters with real time battles using something called the Linear Motion Battle System (LMBS). The player directly controls one character, while other party members are controlled by AI.
